A recent study has found that fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins are among the biggest beer drinkers in the NHL.

According to time2play.com, fans of the Penguins consume on average 3.5 beers per game, good for seventh in the entire NHL.

Those 3.5 beers cost fans on average $52.50 which is the second highest amount in the league.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were given the honor of being the biggest drinkers and highest spenders with 3.9 beers for $58.50.

Behind the Maple Leafs in beers per game comes the Chicago Blackhawks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Colorado Avalanche.

The Penguins are really a team separated from their rivals when it comes to drinking at games as they are the biggest drinkers in the Metropolitan Division.

Time 2 Play found that each of the New York Rangers (1.8), Washington Capitals (1.9), New Jersey Devils (2.1), and New York Islanders (2.1) all fill in the bottom four of the beers per game list.

The holiday St. Patrick’s Day even played a hand in the outcome of this study as teams based in Pennsylvania (Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers) see as spike around the holiday.

Pennsylvania is the leader in drinking on St. Patrick’s Day and their hockey teams see much of that impact.
