The Stanley Cup winning Vegas Golden Knights broke a record set by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991.
The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers in five games to win their first ever Stanley Cup, but they broke a record set by the 1991 Penguins on their way to victory.
In Game 5, with just over a minute remaining, Nicolas Roy batted in a loose puck to give the Golden Knights a 9-3 lead and thus breaking the Penguins record.
The ninth goal sealed that Vegas would break the record for most goals score in a Cup-clinching game; the Penguins set the record with eight in 1991.
In Game 6 against the Minnesota North Stars, the Penguins won by a score of 8-0 with with seven different players recording a goal.
Tom Barrasso notched the shutout in the Penguins’ first ever championship.
The Golden Knights scored nine goals with seven different goal scorers; captain Mark Stone recorded the first Stanley Cup hat trick since Peter Forseberg with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996.
Thanks to the shutout performance from Barrasso and the Panthers notching three tallies, the Penguins still hold the record for widest margin of any Stanley Cup Final game.
