Kevin Constantine was the Pittsburgh Penguins head coach for a pair of seasons.
The WHL has handed down a hefty punishment on former Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Kevin Constantine.
During the 1997-98 and 1998-99 season, Constantine was behind the Penguins bench, but has been bouncing around various minor and junior teams since 2003.
In July of 2023, Constantine was named the first coach of the Wenatchee Wild, formerly the Winnipeg Ice.
Recently, the WHL opened an investigation against Constantine and found that he had violated the standard of conduct policies.
The investigation found that Constantine had made derogatory and discriminatory remarks.
If Constantine wishes to apply for reinstatement, he will not be eligible until 2025.
The WHL released the following statement on the suspension:
“The WHL holds our players and staff to a very high standard of conduct at all times,” commented WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. “We have extensive programming which emphasizes the importance of always treating players and staff in a respectful manner and there is a zero tolerance for any comments of a derogatory nature. Those in leadership capacities in the WHL, in particular our Head Coaches, are expected to set examples for our players and not conduct themselves in a manner that would impact adversely on the team environment or inflict damage on the reputation of the League.”
The investigation began on September 24, when the WHL received a complaint about Constantine and his conduct.
During his time with the Penguins, Constantine coached the Penguins to a 86-64-35 record and a pair of playoff appearances.
