The Pittsburgh Penguins may have their eyes on a GM replacement, but they can't wait too much longer.
Ever since Fenway Sports Group (FSG) fired Ron Hextall as general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, fans have had their eyes on targets as possible replacements.
Multiple names have peaked Penguins’ fans interest, like Kyle Dubas and Eric Tulsky, but those two have something in common; their respective teams are still in the playoffs.
It’s not easy going through an interview process with a front office executive while their team is still competing for the Stanley Cup.
But, what if FSG has their eyes solely set on someone like Dubas? Are they willing to wait until the Toronto Maple Leafs bow out of the postseason? What if they pull of the near impossible and comeback from their 3-0 series deficit?
Dave Beeston of FSG said the group would like to find someone ‘as soon as possible, without rushing it.’
It’s been a month since Hextall was released and not much movement has been made on the hiring front.
As for how long FSG is willing to continue waiting, it won’t be much; Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff noted that the Penguins are likely wrapping up a first round of interviews.

Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast said that FSG is willing to wait and give Dubas a shot, but can’t wait THAT long.
For the Penguins to still have a real chance at hiring Dubas, they likely need to Maple Leafs to lose as soon as possible.
For the fans that have their eyes set on Tulsky, that might be out of reach as the Carolina Hurricanes have punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Final and have at least four more games of hockey to play.
Everything is still up in the air, but with the report of an initial round of interviews being concluded, with a few names attached, it’s hard to imagine the search for front office staff drags on much longer.
