Kyle Dubas seems pretty determined to bring the Norris Trophy Winner to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were one of the more active teams on the opening day of free agency.
By signing seven new players and handing a new deal to starting goalie Tristan Jarry, the Penguins already look like a completely new team under Kyle Dubas.
Despite all of those additions, fans continued to wonder if there was one massive name heading to Pittsburgh.
Reports came out that the Penguins were in direct conversation and one of the possible final two teams in on Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Erik Karlsson.
Even after a few days, it doesn’t seem like the Penguins are out of the running just yet.
According to Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, these talks have been going on at least since the first day of the 2023 NHL Draft.
Despite also being told the deal fell through, Friedman said things gained more traction and if Dubas wants Karlsson, he’s going to get him.
Karlsson has been on Dubas’ radar since his days with the Toronto Maple Leafs and is still very much a target.
The veteran defenseman might carry an huge contract, and the San Jose Sharks said they wouldn’t retain more than 20% of the money, this trade isn’t unrealistic for the Penguins.
Dubas is determined to improve the Penguins’ roster and these talks have gone on for almost a week.
Karlsson wants out of San Jose and Pittsburgh could be his next home.
