Penguins Chose Perfect Time To Announce Kyle Dubas

It may have looked petty, but the Pittsburgh Penguins chose the perfect time to announce their hiring of Kyle Dubas.

With Kyle Dubas deciding on his future, is the Senators job currently more attractive than the Penguins?

After nearly two months of searching, the Pittsburgh Penguins finally made a huge hire in their hunt for a new front office.

The Penguins announced that Kyle Dubas was hired as the new president of hockey operations; and while that seems innocent enough, the timing of the release could come across as a little petty, but in the best way possible.

As the news about Dubas was being released, the Toronto Maple Leafs were minutes away from their opening press conference with Brad Treliving as their new general manager.

Treliving is filling the role that Dubas was essentially fired from just under two weeks ago.

Prior to being fired, Dubas expressed interest in more than one way to remain in Toronto as their general manager.

Dubas said during his end of season press conference that it was the Maple Leafs or nothing and that you wouldn’t see him popping up anywhere else.

That was before Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan axed Dubas from his position in Toronto.

Was the timing of the announcement an attempt to steal the spotlight from the Leafs and Treliving? Probably not, but it makes for great, unintentional drama.

During the press conference in Toronto, Shanahan was asked what he thought about the Penguins’ recent announcement and he stated his support of Dubas.

The Penguins will soon introduce Dubas as their new president and everyone can get moving with the rest of their offseason.
