The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to drop the puck on their second of three matches at the annual Prospect Challenge and are looking for a bounce back following a 4-2 loss.
Not long after the prospects wrap up in Buffalo, it’ll be back to Pittsburgh for the opening of Penguins’ training camp for many of the youngsters.
One top prospects in particular to keep an eye on as he progresses into a professional is defenseman Isaac Belliveau.
Ever since being drafted by the Penguins in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Draft, Belliveau has shot up as one of the best offensive defensemen in the system.
In his last two seasons with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL, Belliveau has recorded 84 points in 122 games, one of the highest producing blue liners on his team.
With a fresh entry-level contract signed in March, Belliveau is set to enter his first season of professional hockey in the Penguins’ organization.
It’ll be vital for Belliveau to transition his offensive ability seamlessly as he climbs the ladder.
He may not be a threat for the NHL just yet, absolutely will be in the very near future.
If Belliveau is able to put together a solid final couple of games at the Prospect Challenge and following training camp and preseason games he will see his potential rise to a whole new level.
For those interested in the future of the Penguins, it'll be important to keep an eye on multiple key prospects at camp, and Belliveau is right in the middle of that group.
