PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins blew their third straight third period lead against the New York Islanders and the morale around the team continues to sink.

After pulling off the comeback, the Islanders for the first time ever clinched the season sweep of the Penguins by winning all four contests in the 2022-23 regular season.

If an MVP award was to be given out for the four-game series, it would have to be split between pair of leaders from Long Island.

Brock Nelson and captain Anders Lee absolutely owned the Penguins this season combining for 17 points in four games.

Nelson himself is leading the Islanders in scoring on the season, but put up five goals and four assists for nine points, including the most recent overtime game winner.

On the season, Lee has scored a total of 26 goals, but a whole seven have come against the Penguins.

With an assist tacked on, Lee has put up eight points against the Penguins in their four battles.

Those two have owned the Penguins to a humiliating degree; in those same four games, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have combined for only five points.

The Penguins are out of time to steal a win from the Islanders, but they are going to have to dig deep in the coming weeks.

Numerous games against not only Metropolitan Division opponents, but other Eastern Conference playoff teams.

The Penguins have 18 games remaining and their postseason spot still isn’t set in stone.
