The 39-year-old center and captain for the Pittsburgh Penguins finds himself on yet another top list
Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby may be 39 years old, but between building on his own record of consecutive seasons at point-per-game and flirting with top-five all-time in NHL scoring, he keeps proving he's still one of the NHL's elite centers.
And this weekend, there was another recognition to show for that.
On Sunday, Crosby was named by NHL Network as the seventh-best center in the NHL. Despite being a decade senior to many of his peers, Crosby appeared above names such as Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews, Montreal Canadiens' captain Nick Suzuki, and New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes.
The closest player to Crosby in terms of age within the top-20 on the list is Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele, who is 33.
Crosby, who is entering his 22nd season in the NHL, led the Penguins to the playoffs last season for the first time since 2022. Despite his defensive game dwindling a bit in recent seasons, his offense has remained consistent, as his 21 consecutive point-per-game seasons is an NHL record and he is sitting at 1,761 points, which is just 38 points shy of clearing Ron Francis - hired by the Penguins' front office this summer - for fifth all-time in points.
He is entering the final season of his current contract, and according to The Athletic's Josh Yohe, is expected to sign an extension with the Penguins before the season begins.
