One of the newest Pittsburgh Penguins can't wait to see what the rivalry with the Philadelphia Flyers is all about.

When Erik Karlsson joined the Pittsburgh Penguins, he knew he was joining a top team in the NHL with some of the game’s biggest players and but also some of the biggest rivalries.

In just the second game of the season, Karlsson already got a taste for the Penguins rivalry with the Washington Capitals, but this time around he’ll experience the Battle of Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia Flyers roll to Pittsburgh after a pretty successful start to the season and only one standings point separating the two teams.

After 23 games, the Flyers have an 11-10-2 records for 24 points, and the Penguins are a game and point back with an 11-10-1 record.

Karlsson has seen plenty of battles between these two teams, but is excited to experience it first hand.

“It’ll be fun, obviously, those games are exciting,” Karlsson said. “I’ve watched a lot of those games in the past. It’s nice to see that we’re fighting for our position in the standings.”

Heading into the season, the Flyers were expected to be one of the worst teams in the Metropolitan Division with not much growth after last season.

They’ve done a good job of proving the doubters wrong to start the year, but the expectations are still for them to fall out of playoff contention.

The Penguins will need to take full advantage of such a down fall and claim two huge points against them.

“A lot of people had them counted out,” Karlsson said. “They’ve done good. It should be a good match. Can’t line up any better on a Saturday night.”

It won’t take long for the two teams to meet again, either, as after a day off on Sunday, the Penguins travel to Philadelphia for the second half of this home-and-home matchup.

It’s a huge swing for the Penguins who need the standings points and stealing them from a team ahead of them in the race will go a long way.
