A few key Pittsburgh Penguins are real close to hitting new career milestones.

A few key Pittsburgh Penguins are real close to hitting new career milestones.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have arrived in California and are about to kick off one of their most important road trips of the season.

Of course, this three-game stretch is a huge chance for the Penguins to gain some speed in the standings, but a few players are within striking distance of career milestones.

Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang, and Jake Gunetzel are on the door step of major milestones and could reach them before the team returns home.

    Crosby 1,200 Games Played

After being the first player in Penguins history to play in 1,000 career games, Crosby has remained relatively healthy and is adding to his lead in games played in franchise history.

When the puck drops against the San Jose Sharks, Crosby will have officially played in 1,200 career games, a number not reached by some of the games greatest players.

“That’s a lot of hockey.” Crosby said. “I’m grateful that I’ve been able to play this long. I love it just as much as I did in game one.”

Over his first 1,199 games, Crosby has recorded 555 goals and 957 assists for 1,512 points.

    Letang 700 Career Points

Letang might not be the most offensively gifted defenseman on the team this year, but he is still the franchise leader in defensive points, and is growing his greatness.

In his 18th NHL season, Letang is closing in on 700 total points; heading into this road trip, he is four shy at 696 (156G-540A).

It might not be extremely easy or guaranteed Letang hits the 700-point mark while in California, but the Penguins could use a jump from their franchise defenseman.

Four points from Letang would likely mean the Penguins did well on the road, and that could be huge heading into the rest of the season.

    Guentzel 200 Goals

One of the best goal scorers on the Penguins roster is just a tally shy of reaching a significant milestone.

Guentzel has been fairly snake bitten to start this season, but perhaps surpassing this significant marker can open up the flood gates.

In nine games, Guentzel only has a pair of goals, but his goal scoring ability is sure to wake upin the near future.
