Penguins Need Wake Up Call Move

The Pittsburgh Penguins need a jump to their system after a slow start to the 2023-24 season.

Pittsburgh Penguins' goaltender Tristan Jarry continues to struggle with making timely saves in big moments.

We’ve reached the month of November and the Pittsburgh Penguins are still trying to gain their footing on the 2023-24 season.

A slow start might have been expected considering the amount of turnover the Penguins lineup saw, but the expectations were through the roof.

Now, looking at a 3-6-0 record at the very bottom of the Eastern Conference, the team needs some kind of wake up call.

This is where new president and general manager Kyle Dubas steps in; could that wake up call come in the form of an early-season trade?

A recall from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins could bring a good vibe, but that probably wouldn’t be enough to move the needle in kicking the team into gear.

Who could be on the block for such a deal, though? A vast majority of the forwards are locked into town and the defense generally hasn’t been terrible.

Dubas likely wouldn’t get much in return for a trade at this point of the season, especially if it’s for a depth piece, but this kind of move wouldn’t be about roster building.

The Penguins need a move that will send a message to the entire room and keep players uncomfortable, while also finding that next level.

All of the players, and head coach Mike Sullivan for that matter, believe they’ve played better than their record suggests and don’t feel any panic settling in.

A small move to give the roster a little shake and the room a jostle could be just what the doctor ordered for the Penguins.
