The Pittsburgh Penguins need a steady presence on the penalty kill and that's something Nick Bonino can bring.

The NHL offseason is a long one for the Pittsburgh Penguins and as the NHL Draft and eventual opening of free agency closes in, it’s safe to assume big lineup changes are coming.

The Penguins are still on the lookout for a new general manager, but what kind of changes on-ice changes will they want to see?

On the surface it seems like a number of players will test the free agent market, but are there a certain few a new regime might want to keep around and experiment with?

Jason Zucker is the obvious first choice to try and re-sign in Pittsburgh, but what about another veteran coasting around in the bottom-six?

Nick Bonino was brought back to the Penguins’ organization on trade deadline day and the deal felt like it was more for nostalgia sake rather than for his skill.

The reunion came to an end before it could really take off as Bonino would be sidelined for the remainder of the season after just three games.

A lacerated kidney ended Bonino’s season, but could there be another chance for him in Pittsburgh?

The Penguins have plenty of leadership within the locker room, but Bonino could be another cheap option for the bottom-six.

At the age of 35, Bonino doesn’t fit the ‘younger and faster’ moniker the Penguins are going for, but he could prove to be reliable.

Bonino won’t wow anyone with a scoring touch, but ever since losing defensive forwards like Zach Aston-Reese and Teddy Blueger, the Penguins need another option.

Ryan Poehling can’t do it all himself and ideally Bryan Rust shouldn’t be killing penalties.

The Penguins need another depth forward who can come up big on the penalty kill and Bonino just might be the right option.
