A Pittsburgh Penguins' top goaltending propsect continues to rack up accolades after what was an impressive rookie season in the AHL.
There is already quite a lot of talk about the potential goaltending situation for the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2025-26 season, as both Stuart Skinner and Arturs Silovs are set to become free agents of some kind.
But the Penguins also have a few young goaltenders who will be in the mix regardless, and one of them was recognized after his stellar rookie season in the AHL.
On Wednesday, Penguins' top goaltending prospect Sergei Murashov was named to the AHL's 2025-26 Top Prospects Team, which features three forwards, two defensemen, and one netminder, making him the sole goaltender to make the cut.
The rest of the squad composed of forwards Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Konsta Helenius, and Ilya Protas as well as defensemen Adam Engstrom and Carter Yakemchuck.
Murashov, 22, just completed his first full season at the AHL level, posting a .919 save percentage, a 2.20 goals-against average, and four shutouts along with a 24-9-3 record in 38 regular season games. He also led Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (WBS) to the AHL's Eastern Conference Final during the Calder Cup Playoffs - where they lost in six games to the Toronto Marlies - capping off that run with a .931 save percentage in 15 games.
The young Russian netminder also saw five games at the NHL level during the regular season, going 1-1-2 with a 2.56 goals-against average and an .897 save percentage.
