Pittsburgh Penguins veteran center Evgeni Malkin continues to separate himself in NHL history.

The Pittsburgh Penguins had themselves a game filled with milestones in their return from the holiday break against the New York Islanders.

Not only did Valterri Puustinen finally score his first goal and Kris Letang notch six assists, but another member of the Penguins core separated himself in NHL history.

With his second goal of the night against the Islanders, Evgeni Malkin surpassed Sergeri Fedorov for most goals by a Russian born player with 484.

Malkin’s tally puts him behind only Alex Ovechkin in goals scored by a Russian player.

Ovechkin is chasing down Wayne Gretzky on the all-time goals list, so this is essentially where Malkin to end his career in the Russian scoring race.

It’ll just be up to him to create some separation between him and Fedorov.

Malkin recorded his 484th goal in his 1,096th career game and still with two years left on his NHL contract to rise the all-time ranks.

Fedorov played in 1,248 career games and is now 54th all-time in NHL goals; Malkin moves into a tie with Darryl Sittler for sole possession of 52nd.

In just the matter of games, Malkin could move into the top 50 as Brian Bellows (485) and Norm Ullman (590) are within striking distance.

At the age of 37, the Penguins are still utilizing Malkin as a second line center, and the production may have taken a dip recently, he still proves time and time again why he is one of the greatest players of all time.
