The Pittsburgh Penguins didn't have a great season, but there are a few UFAs that could garner some attention.

The Pittsburgh Penguins didn't have a great season, but there are a few UFAs that could garner some attention.

As the NHL Playoffs drag along, fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins are still waiting on any sort of news about a new general manager.

It’s been a little over three weeks since Fenway Sports Group fired Ron Hextall marking the longest the Penguins have gone without a GM since 2006.

It’s not really obvious how much longer Fenway wants to wait, but the longer the holdout, the closer upcoming free agents get to hitting the market.

Despite missing the postseason, the Penguins have a few high profile free agents who could be appealing to teams around the NHL.

If these players chose to test the waters, they could be some of the most coveted free agents of the summer.

    Jason Zucker

Obviously, Jason Zucker’s bounce back season makes him the most appealing Penguins set to have their contract expire.

Without Zucker playing in his healthiest season since arriving in Pittsburgh, the Penguins would have looked even more lost than they already did.

In 78 games played, Zucker scored 27 goals and 21 assists for 48 points; his highest totals since 2017-18.

Zucker may be 31-years-old and still prone to injuries, but he proved to be worth every dime.

Whether it’s in Pittsburgh or elsewhere, Zucker will deserve whatever contract he earns this free agency; it’ll likely be his last lucrative deal and the Penguins should find a way to make it work.

    Tristan Jarry

The 2023 free agent market isn’t expected to feature a deep pool of goalies, but Tristan Jarry will likely be one of the biggest highlights.

When healthy, Jarry proves over and over that he can be one of the best goalies in the NHL; his injuries have been his ultimate downfall.

For the sake of the Penguins, they can’t allow Jarry and his injuries be the reason they miss out on a great run at the Stanley Cup.

A number of teams around the NHL will be looking for stout goaltending this offseason, and Jarry can supply that.

This offseason might see a major shakeup regarding goalies around the NHL and Jarry is probably going to be one of the biggest names in the conversation.

    Brian Dumoulin

He didn’t make it really obvious in Pittsburgh, but Brian Dumoulin’s meter isn’t on empty yet, he still has something to give in the NHL.

It’s been known since last season that 2022-23 was likely going to be Dumoulin’s last in Pittsburgh, and that will likely hold true this free agency.

As a top line blueliner, Dumoulin can’t cut it, but if a team takes a chance on him as a depth option, there’s no reason why that couldn’t work.

The defensive ability faded away almost completely this past season, yet Dumoulin put up career-high offensive numbers.

A goal and 24 assists for 25 points made Dumoulin on honest difference maker down the stretch, but still finished as a minus-4 on the year.

The Penguins will have their eyes on plenty of free agents this offseason, but when looking around the league, these three should attract a fair bit of noise.
