The Pittsburgh Penguins have been without a general manager since the first day of the offseason and are still yet to make an announcement regarding a new management group.
While Fenway Sports Group (FSG) said they would take their time with the search for new faces in the front office, the Penguins can’t wait too much longer.
FSG was reportedly close to making a hire when Kyle Dubas became available for conversations.
That’s when the Penguins put their entire operation on hold to feel out Dubas’ interest and have essentially left the decision up to him.
Dubas has been in Pittsburgh and taken interviews, but recent conflicting reports have created more questions than answers.
Who is going to be the next general manger and/or president? And when will a hire be made?
The Penguins can’t keep waiting; the NHL Draft is under a month away and numerous decisions regarding the team’s on-ice personnel need to made well before then.
Without someone in place to make those decisions, timelines continue to get backed up and deadlines draw closer.
FSG, the Penguins, and Dubas seemed ready to make a decision after the memorial day weekend, but nothing came of it.
With the long weekend behind us, the Penguins are quickly running out of time to make the hires they want to make.
Free agents need to be negotiated with, RFAs need contract offers, and a lot of questions about the Penguins’ future need answered.
According to Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, there has not been a final decision made by Dubas in either direction.
Friedman does believe that the Penguins need a decision to be made in the near future.
