The Pittsburgh Penguins have a decision to make at the goaltending position.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have plenty of questions to answer entering the summer, but their top priority has to be goaltending. With Tristan Jarry failing to answer questions surrounding his capability as a starting netminder, the Penguins, and their new front office may have to look outside the organization for their answer. Enter Adin Hill.

Hill is backstopping the Vegas Golden Knights to their second Stanley Cup Final appearance in franchise history. His 10.4 goals saved above expected this postseason trails only Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, and his .937 save percentage leads all starting goaltenders this postseason.

With Hill playing in the final year of his current contract, he is becoming one of the more valuable free-agent goaltenders this summer. Could his run to the Final put him above Jarry on the Penguins' wish list?

Jarry certainly has the experience advantage, playing over 100 more regular season games than Hill and shouldering the starting responsibility in most of them, where Hill has spent most of his career as a backup.

The biggest question about Hill will be whether he can perform for an entire season. Hill played a career-high 27 games this season for the Golden Knights. Jarry has shouldered the starting responsibility for the past three seasons, starting 144 games in that time, more than Hill has played over his entire career. Jarry has also been selected to two All-Star Games, whereas Hill has not.

The main advantage for Hill over Jarry is his postseason performance. Jarry remains largely unproven in the NHL postseason, and the small sample that he has shown hasn't been pretty. In eight playoff games, Jarry has a 2-6 record, a 3.00 goals allowed average, and an .891 save percentage.

We saw a Stanley Cup qualifying goaltender switch teams last offseason, with Darcy Kuemper signing with the Washington Capitals. Questions about Jarry's health and ability in the playoffs could bring the Penguins to the market this summer, and Hill may be one of the top goalies available.
