Pittsburgh's captain reaches his second major milestone in two games after becoming the all-time leader in faceoffs won on Tuesday
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby hit a major milestone for the second game in a row when the Penguins took on the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
With a first-period assist on a Drew O'Connor goal, Crosby registered point number 1,642 to surpass Joe Sakic and take sole possession of ninth place on the NHL's all-time scoring list. He tied Sakic earlier in the contest with an assist on Bryan Rust's first-period goal.
This accomplishment comes just one game after surpassing Patrice Bergeron for the most faceoff wins in NHL history during Tuesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Next on the all-time points list for Crosby is none other than Penguins and NHL legend Mario Lemieux, who registered 1,723 points in his shortened NHL career. Crosby added a second-period power play goal to get one step closer to Lemieux for eighth, who he recently passed on Pittsburgh's all-time franchise list for assists.
Crosby needs 156 more NHL points to surpass Ron Francis - sitting at 1,798 - and enter the league's top-five all-time in scoring.
