Brian Burke knew from the moment the Pittsburgh Penguins were sold that he didn't have much chance to keep his job.

The Pittsburgh Penguins could be moments away from naming a new front office staff and begin their journey as a post Ron Hextall and Brian Burke organization.

Burke didn’t speak much to the media as the president of hockey operations for the Penguins, but has made the jump back to TV as an analyst on the NHL Network.

Without another job on the table in an NHL front office, Burke joined the Kyper and Bourne show and spoke about his departure from Pittsburgh.

Burke noted that it was the third time in his management career that a team found new ownership while he was there, and any sale has the threat of big changes.

The Penguins were no different and Burke says there are no hard feelings between him and the Penguins.

“We knew right away we were at risk,” Burke said. “New owners have the right to have whomever they like run the team.”

Fenway Sports Group purchased the Penguins in December of 2021, just under a year after Burke and Hextall were hired and president and GM.

Burke and Hextall hoped that if they found some success in their positions they might be able to fend off their firings, but it was with them at the helm that the Penguins had one of the worst seasons with Sidney Crosby on the roster.
