The San Jose Sharks just lost, but also won, the first game of the Celebrini Bowl 2-1 in a shootout to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Ryan Carpenter scored the only goal for San Jose as they ran into a hot goaltender in Petr Mrazek.
Mikael Granlund left the game in the third period with what looked to be a right shoulder injury.
"Not sure on Granlund, but he might be out for a bit," Quinn said postgame.
Granlund has already missed time this season with a lower-body injury. San Jose leads the NHL in man games lost due to injury, and it looks like that number will continue to rise.
"You look across the league, and a lot of teams are going through injuries, and I kind of feel stupid even talking about injuries in this building [with] what this team has gone through here in Chicago," Quinn said about the injuries never stopping. "It's just the way it is in the National Hockey League. Nobody feels sorry for you."
Anthony Duclair and Calen Addison were healthy scratches for the Sharks tonight.
Quinn said that Duclair was scratched due to a lack of consistency on the ice, the same thing he was scratched for against the Colorado Avalanche in December.
"That's exactly right," Quinn said when asked.
Duclair has been on almost every trade target list ahead of the March 8th deadline.
Calen Addison has now been a healthy scratch for two straight games.
"There's been a little bit of a drop in his play," Quinn said before the game against the Buffalo Sabres."Sometimes, this is the best way to kind of reset yourself. We've got a bunch of defensemen that are in similar situations. I think you're going to see a lot of in and out here moving forward."
David Quinn urged his team to shoot the puck more after they passed up shooting opportunities against the Sabres.
San Jose outshot Chicago 38-25. They also hit two posts and ran into a goalie that was red hot in Mrazek.
San Jose only scored one goal in the shootout, and it was by Kevin Labanc. Labanc didn't play the final 9:52 of the third period and overtime.
"We've just got to maybe bear down a little bit more," Quinn said about the lack of offense. "If you don't get the chances, that's alarming, but we had plenty of chances tonight."
The coach is correct; San Jose did have plenty of chances. According to Moneypuck.com, San Jose deserved to win the game.
San Jose has an off day tomorrow as they return from their five-game road trip. They will practice on Thursday,
