Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports - Three Takeaways From Sharks 5-3 Loss to Panthers

Here are three things the San Jose Sharks can take away from their 5-3 loss to the Florida Panthers.

    1. Competitiveness is there again

Early in the season, the San Jose Sharks looked lost. They barely looked like an NHL team.

Despite the last three losses, San Jose has been competitive. Head coach David Quinn is recognizing that.

"There were a lot of good signs overall throughout the game, but against a team of that caliber, you've got to make sure that you're thorough in all areas for 60 minutes," Quinn said postgame.

It seems like GM Mike Grier's message has resonated with the club. They seem to be playing harder and are staying in games more than before.

    2. This team will get younger

Danil Gushchin is the first of an expected many Sharks prospects to get a look at the NHL level.

Quinn on Gushchin: "He does good things with the puck, and he's a smart player. He's competitive. I thought he did a lot of good things tonight."

Thomas Bordeleau will be back at some point, and it is only a matter of time before we reach the NHL Trade Deadline. The Sharks roster should change as that gets closer, giving younger players more opportunity to crack the lineup.

    3. Anthony Duclair does a lot more for this team than play hockey

Duclair has been out the last three games, and his energy is missed immensely.

He had just started to get going offensively, as in his last two games, he had four points (2 goals, 2 assists).

Duclair also brings energy to the team. Guys look to him for support and motivation.

With him out of the lineup, it has felt like the Sharks have been missing a push. The coaches do a great job motivating, but sometimes, a leader on the bench is needed to give an extra push.
