Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports - Henry Thrun Opens Up About Sharks Road Trip, First NHL Goal, & New Uniform

San Jose Sharks defenseman Henry Thrun finished his first big road trip as a full-time NHL player.

Thrun has played in the Sharks' last 18 games since he was recalled from the San Jose Barracuda. He scored his first NHL goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 9.

"I was told I was going out probably five seconds before the shift started," Thrun told THN today. "I saw Mario was up top, saw Granlund was on the half wall, and I saw Hertl was at the goal line, and those three places have played this year, and [I] figured [I] probably wasn't going to kick any of them out of their slots, so I just kind of just went to the empty spot in the middle."

San Jose lost the game 7-1, and while Thrun was excited for his moment, he wished it had come in a more significant part of the game.

"[I] wish it could have made it a little more of a close game," Thrun explained. "Obviously, it's really exciting and something that I have wanted to do for a long time, and it took a little longer than I had hoped, but it's nice to get it out of the way."

Thrun said that when he gets his first NHL goal puck, he plans to give it to his parents to hang up in their house.

San Jose just completed a five-game road trip and finished with a record of 1-3-1. This was Thrun's first real big trip at the NHL level.

"It's physically and mentally tough to play five games on the road and nine days," Thrun said. "It's hard. You have to learn to take care of your body and learn to recover and learn how to mentally reset for each game. If there's a period or a game you don't like, you have to find a way to get back to the game that you have that can help the team in a short amount of time."

Thrun is averaging 19:08 TOI and has taken a spot next to Jan Rutta on the blue line. He has played well in all facets of the game, solidifying his place in the lineup.

San Jose appears to be releasing a new black uniform. In today's practice, players used black gloves, helmets, and pants, which Thrun and Justin Bailey used with the Barracuda.

"We got a memo yesterday that we were gonna be wearing black," Bailey said. "I was wearing the black pants and gloves down in the minors. So mine are a little bit more broken than the rest of the crew, but as far as the jerseys and stuff like that, I have no idea what's coming next, but I'm looking forward to it."

Thrun echoed the same as his locker mate but wouldn't reveal the actual jersey design.
