Nico Sturm and Logan Couture hope to play in the San Jose Sharks game on Saturday.
Sturm and Couture practiced fully today as the Sharks prepare to face the Anaheim Ducks.
"I'm hoping to play on Saturday," Couture said. "We will see where we're at tomorrow and go from there."
Couture skated with a line for the first time at Sharks practice today, which is another step in his recovery process.
"It was fun [to] be with the guys and feel like you're part of the team, on a line and going all the time," Couture said. "I need it. No matter how much I practice or skate, I am going to feel probably shitty for a little bit here."
Couture hasn't played a game this season and would be a welcome addition to a struggling Sharks lineup.
San Jose lost Mikael Granlund to an upper-body injury against the Chicago Blackhawks and has yet to have a full complement of centers in the lineup.
"I think we dodged a bullet," Sharks coach David Quinn said about Granlund's injury. "When we had three of our centers in tact, we were a much more successful hockey team."
The Sharks look like they will also get Nico Sturm back in the lineup after he had surgery on his wrist.
"My record shows that I don't miss a lot of time," Sturm said. "Unfortunately, this was something that I couldn't control."
Sturm is the Sharks' leading faceoff man this season and said if he is in the lineup, he won't have any restrictions.
As for what Quinn thinks of the chances of Sturm and Couture playing:
"Day-to-day. If they keep progressing, they will be ready to go Saturday," Quinn said.
While Quinn didn't give any full confirmation that they would play on Saturday, he did say that tomorrow's practice would be a good test of their readiness.
"There was no hesitation in any way, shape, or form," Quinn said about Couture's practice. "Tomorrow would probably be a better test. Today was a little different type of practice. Tomorrow [there will be] definitely a lot more five-on-five."
Sturm and Couture were placed on lines in practice, which neither had done since they began skating with the group again.
The San Jose Sharks could play with almost a complete lineup on Saturday when they take on the Anaheim Ducks.
