The San Jose Sharks have had a rough season, but that won't stop some players from having great seasons.
With the 2024 NHL All-Star Break upon the team, it is time to select this year's award winners for the San Jose Sharks.
There has been no question about who the team MVP is this season; it is Tomas Hertl. With 34 points in 48 games, Hertl leads the Sharks in goals with 15. He has taken on a massive leadership role during Logan Couture's absence.
In a season that has gone horribly for San Jose, Hertl has been front and center, taking hits for the club. He has handled this with pride and honor.
Mario Ferraro has been the workhorse for the Sharks defense. Although he hasn't been the traditional offensive defenseman who would win the James Norris trophy, Ferraro has averaged 22:45 TOI this season.
He is head coach David Quinn's go-to guy when the team wins late and needs a strong defense.
Before his injury, Ferraro had shown an ability to jump into the rush that he hadn't shown since entering the NHL.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic gets an honorable mention just because of his last nine games. Vlasic is on the best goal streak in years. He has five goals in the previous nine games, including goals in the last three games.
While the numbers aren't glamorous, Mackenzie Blackwood has been an elite goalie for the San Jose Sharks.
He started his San Jose career with a heartbreaking 51-save performance against the Colorado Avalanche. He has kept the Sharks in most games this season, and the front office speaks highly of him.
While William Eklund is having a solid season, Henry Thrun's value to the Sharks defense can't be measured.
Thrun returned as a different player after going down to the AHL early in the season. He got paired with Jan Rutta and has become a workhorse. He scored his first NHL goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs on a powerplay.
Tomas Hertl has taken on a central defensive role for coach Quinn. He has been on the top penalty-killing unit, something he didn't do too much of last season. His defense has been solid, and he wins faceoffs.
In 34 games this season, Carpenter only has four penalty minutes and is somehow +1. He has been an excellent fourth-line center for the Sharks.
