Robert Edwards-USA TODAY Sports - Sharks Feel Logan Couture's Offense Is Around The Corner

Logan Couture has played five games for the San Jose Sharks this season. He only has one assist, but head coach David Quinn has confidence in him.

Couture's assist was to Marc-Edouard Vlasic in his first game.

With Tomas Hertl injured, Couture is centering a line of Fabian Zetterlund and Mike Hoffman. While that line hasn't scored any points, coach Quinn felt the third period was a strong building point for them.

"Generating offense isn't a one-man show. We need help from other people," Quinn said this morning. "The last two games just haven't been there for us, in particular for his line. I thought the third period was better for their line last night, so hopefully, we can sustain more possession and O-zone play."

Offensive zone pressure is something that the Sharks weren't able to produce much of against the Seattle Kraken last night. The Sharks were outshot 18-8 through the first two periods but tied in the third with 14 shots.

After the Sharks played the Buffalo Sabres, Coture was slightly disappointed in where he was offensively.

"I don't think offensively the chances have come, and I don't think I'm creating enough on the net," Couture said. "I don't even know how many shots on goal I've had through four games. I don't know how long it's gonna take; I'm just happy to be playing right now."

Couture missed nearly nine months of hockey, and with no game action in any form, the Sharks shouldn't have been expecting a massive offensive outburst.

The Sharks have had 17 goals scored by defensemen in December and January, good enough for the third in the league, and will need more scoring from the forwards after the All-Star break.

"Our D have done a much better job, getting involved in the rush and shooting more pucks," Quinn said. "That's a big that's two full months. It's a lot of hockey. If you're going to generate offense in this day and age, your defenseman better be involved."

The Sharks take on the Anaheim Ducks tonight in their final game before the all-star break and NHL-mandated bye week.
