In his media availability before the 2024 NHL All-Star weekend, San Jose Sharks All-Star Tomas Hertl confirmed to reporters that he will play despite missing the last two games with a lower-body injury.
Hertl will participate in his second career All-Star game. The player draft returns to the weekend's festivities. Hertl told San Jose media members he didn't want to be picked last when he was announced as an All-Star.
With the revamped skills competition this year, Hertl won't be participating in that event.
When asked by members of the media at the media availability in Toronto about who he would pick to win the contest, Hertl chose Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar.
"He's really good. Maybe everyone would pick Connor McDavid, but I think he's one of the best defensemen," Hertl said. "I hate playing against him but enjoy watching him. So I say him."
Hertl will find out where he is drafted tonight when the four team captains go through their draft and select their fellow all-stars.
