The San Jose Sharks came from behind to beat the New York Islanders 5-4 behind a Tomas Hertl hat trick.
This was by far the most improbable win for San Jose this season, and here is how the locker room reacted:
"It's feels great. We probably couldn't even have gotten this chance earlier in the season."
"I would be lying if I didn't like to score a hat trick. Everybody wants to score. Especially when you can help the team; I'm really happy we could finish it and get two big points."
"I think it's all like from New Jersey. We finally feel like we can score some goals. Earlier in the season, it was a big issue. When you score zero or one goal, you can't win in this league."
"I was just exhausted, to be honest. I'm just trying to try and get some speed and Granlund made an unbelievable play to get it to me. I just tried to rip it, and it went in."
Eklund on how this win felt compared to other wins: "Oh, it's even better, to be honest. We put ourselves in a bad position today. I feel like our team bonding has been really good the last couple of weeks and we just came together today and made a good performance."
Eklund on Hertl's importance to him: "He's really important to me. I think keeping us together, we are always talking on the bench. He's always helping with small tips and tricks. That is something I really appreciate about him."
"Fun? I don't know if I'd call that fun [but] for the last three and a half minutes certainly make you feel really good."
"That second goal really gave us a ray of hope. Real good job by the Labanc, Sturm, Bailey line. Establishing a forecheck and getting the puck up top, and Okhotiuk bombs it. We get screens in front, and so that gives us a little bit of hope."
Quinn on Hertl: "I mean, he's been outstanding all year. There was a little lull, maybe in his game, because he was getting frustrated. We were going through a tough time. You're talking about a big-time centerman in this league. He protects the puck so well. He's got such a high hockey IQ and just an incredible teammate. I'm really happy for him, and he gets a hat trick tonight."
"To dig out of the hole the way we are starting to and play with some swagger and confidence that we're playing with just really says an awful lot about our players. I couldn't be prouder of them, and I couldn't be happier for them because there were a lot of real happy faces in there, and there have been a lot of happy faces lately."
Pure joy from the Sharks locker room this evening.
