The NHL All-Star Draft Is Back! Remember when Logan Couture Won a Car?
The NHL announced it is bringing back the all-star draft this season, and San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture should remember it fondly.
The Ottawa Senators hosted the 2012 All-Star game. This was the second year of the "fantasy" draft, where captains of the two teams selected their peers.
Logan Couture was the only representative for the San Jose Sharks that season. Senators legend Daniel Alfredsson selected him. Alfredsson was the captain of the "home" team.
Couture's selection was significant because he was the final pick in the draft. He became Mr. Irrelevant, and by doing so, he won a car!
Heading into the all-star break, Couture had 36 points (21 goals and 15 assists) in 47 games. Couture played his junior hockey with the Ottawa 67s in the Ontario Hockey League. Couture had one assist in the all-star game that season.
The NHL All-Star game is now three-on-three, so four teams will draft players this season. The Toronto Maple Leafs will host this year's game.
