Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 44 shots to shut out his former team as the San Jose Sharks beat the New Jersey Devils 1-0.

Blackwood was steller all night and made key saves when needed most. Nico Sturm scored his third goal of the season for San Jose, who improved its record to 5-9-2. The Sharks have won five of their last seven games.

Jake Allen started in goal for the Devils and made 26 saves. The Devils had moments where they could shoot, but they looked for an extra pass.

Jake Walman missed his third straight game with an upper-body injury, and Will Smith didn't play as part of his development plan.

Sturm gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead after he missed a breakaway but threw the puck back in front and off Timo Meier into the net. It was Sturm's third goal of the season.
