Alexander Barabanov has three points in three games since returning to the San Jose Sharks lineup, but David Quinn feels he has more in him.
"I know he and us want him to get to another level [and] not just get to where he was last year," Quinn said this morning.
Last season, Barabanov had 47 points (15 goals, 32 assists) in 68 games.
The Russian forward didn't have a point this season through his first six games. He then injured his left finger. Since returning to the lineup, the Sharks as a team have started to figure out the offense.
The chemistry between Tomas Hertl and Barabanov has grown tremendously over the last two seasons. They finally have a third member to take this line to the next level, William Eklund.
"One of the things that's happened quickly is, between him, Eklund, and Hertl, they've created a little bit of chemistry," Quinn said. "Barbie will just continue to improve his timing, he will continue to improve his conditioning, and [his] pace will continue to improve."
"I think with his mindset, the guys he's playing with, I think he's trending in that direction," Quinn said.
Barabanov is currently on the second powerplay unit and should remain prominent in the forward group.
