For the first time in NHL history, an NHL team has lost its first nine games of the season in back-to-back seasons. The Sharks tied the Boston Bruins of 1960-61, 61-62 to lose their first eight games of the season in back-to-back seasons. 

Another slow start buried the Sharks as Vitek Vanecek was peppered with 22 shots in the first. Vanecek made 35 saves. The Sharks got goals from Mikael Granlund, Nico Sturm, and Luke Kunin. 

Vegas got goals from six players: Tanner Pearson, Jack Eichel, Brett Howden (2), William Karlsson, Pavel Dorofeyev, and Mark Stone. Ilya Samsonov made 24 saves. 

Stone and Dorofeyev each had a goal and two assists.

Tomas Hertl played his first career game against the Sharks and had two assists. 

Vanecek made a blunder on Karlsson's shorthanded goal. The goalie tried to come out to play the puck but hesitated, leading to a vacated net. 

The Sharks' next chance for a win comes Monday during their first-ever game against the Utah HC.
