New Jersey Devils forward Timo Meier might be unable to play against the San Jose Sharks on Friday.
Meier suffered a lower-body injury on Nov. 14 against the Winnipeg Jets. He scored a goal that put him on a three-game goal streak.
Although he finished the game, he apparently suffered the injury at some point. According to THN's Devils reporter Kristy Flannery, Meier skated on his own at practice today.
Flannery also believes that it is unlikely that Meier will play against San Jose.
"I wouldn't expect Meier to play versus San Jose," Flannery said about his chances of suiting up. "He has been skating on his own, according to head coach Lindy Ruff, but has not joined his team for practice."
New Jersey plays at the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow and the Sharks on Friday at home.
"With the Devils starting a back-to-back without any additional practices, I don't see him in Friday's lineup," Flannery said.
Meier was one of the most significant acquisitions of last season's NHL trade deadline.
The Sharks got a lot of pieces back, including Fabian Zetterlund, Nikita Okhotiuk, and Shakir Mukhamadullin.
Meier's season has been a turbulent one. It took him until the sixth game of the season to score his first goal. He was also benched in a game against the Florida Panthers.
As stated before, Meier was on a three-game goal streak before the injury. He has 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in 14 games this season.
All signs indicate Meier being unavailable on Friday, but he hasn't been ruled out yet.
