The San Jose Sharks have acquired Ryan Reaves from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for defenseman Henry Thrun.

Reaves, 38, is known for his enforcer style of play. He’s being brought into the Sharks’ lineup to fill a role, to protect the young stars.

He has played in 912 NHL games for the Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues. In those 912 games, he has scored 63 goals and 74 assists for 137 points. He’s also racked up 1,110 penalty minutes.

Reaves is quickly going to become a fan favourite in San Jose. He’s pound for pound the toughest player in the NHL. He’ll drop the gloves with just about anyone and will do anything for his teammates. This trade gives players like Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith the freedom to play with more confidence.

As for Thrun, he’s a 24-year-old depth defenseman who will help fill holes on the back end for the Maple Leafs. In 119 games, he has scored five goals and 20 assists for 25 points.
