BREAKING NEWS: The San Jose Sharks have claimed defensemen Nick Leddy off of waivers from the St. Louis Blues.
Leddy, 34, is yet another veteran defensmen that GM Mike Grier has added in the last three days.
He was placed on waivers yesterday after he and the Blues tried to find him a new home. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a path, so placing him on waivers gave him the chance to play elsewhere.
Now that he is with the Sharks, he adds veteran leadership and a huge locker room presence to the group.
Last season in only 31 games, he had 8 points. However, in seasons prior he reached the 30-40 point mark multiple times.
He is now entering the final year of a four year deal that pays him $4 million per season.
This pick up, alongside the Dmitry Orlov signing, is an absolute masterclass by Grier and the Sharks front office. They addressed a big need on the blue line while also adding meaningful dollars to their salary cap to get them over the cap floor.
BREAKING: San Jose Sharks Sign Dmitry Orlov
BREAKING NEWS: The San Jose Sharks have signed Dmitry Orlov to a two-year, $13 million contract. The contract carries an AAV of $6.5 million.
San Jose Sharks' Free Agency Review
It’s now been three days since free agency opened and the San Jose Sharks still have a lot of work to do to reach the cap floor. As of right now, they have $32 million in cap space and sit at $62.8 million in used cap space, which means they need to get to $70.6 million to be cap compliant.
