Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports - BREAKING: Sharks Place Captain On IR; Activate Henry Thrun

The San Jose Sharks have activated Henry Thrun and placed Logan Couture on IR before their game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

To activate Thrun from IR today, San Jose had to open a roster spot up, and with Couture's week-to-week timeline and uncertainty of a definitive deadline, he was the perfect candidate.

Couture's injury is supposedly not as severe as before, and he is progressing, per head coach David Quinn.

Thrun had been playing exceptionally well, and it looked like he had taken a big step forward in his development.

"Just build off of the way he was playing until he got hurt," Quinn said pregame. "I thought he was making great progress. I thought he made a great jump in the three to four weeks stretch before he got hurt. It's unfortunate he got hurt. "We probably held him out a little bit longer than we needed to, but we wanted to make sure that when he came back, he was ready to go, and there wasn't more of a risk of a setback."

Thrun will take pregame warmups before there is official word on him returning to the lineup, but his activation was the critical first step to his returning.
