San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture remains week-to-week with his lower-body injury, but reports have surfaced that if Couture is going to be traded, it won't happen until the off-season.
Couture recently suffered a setback with his longing injury that kept him out for all but six games this season.
"Day-to-day. Wait and see how he continues progressing," Quinn said about Couture. "He's made some strides."
When Couture first revealed his injury to the media, he told reporters that there were days he couldn't get out of bed because the pain was so bad. Quinn confirmed that his setback is not as severe.
"He's getting better. So that's a good sign," Quinn explained. "He's shut down until he feels better to get back out there."
The Sharks are already without Tomas Hertl for an extended period, and neither Couture nor Hertl has a timeline for a return.
Reports surfaced on Thursday that Logan Couture's trade market is heating up. While Hertl and Couture's futures with the Sharks have been uncertain right from the get-go, if Couture is going to be traded, the injury likely will push it to the off-season.
With the Sharks being sellers at the upcoming March 8th trade deadline, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that Mike Grier and the Sharks are open for business. Many Sharks forwards are pending UFAs and have had rumors about them.
Their two most significant trade chips are Hertl and Couture. Both have term left on their contract at high cap hits, making an in-season trade more difficult.
Regarding Couture, this latest injury setback has moved interest to the off-season.
Couture's cap hit is $8 million and runs through the 2026-27 season. He also has a three-team trade list, meaning he must say which teams he would accept a trade to. That list is not public, and if the Sharks agree to a deal with a team not on his list, the captain would have to approve it.
Pagnotta reports that the Nashville Predators, Buffalo Sabres, and Ottawa Senators are teams who have shown interest in trading for Couture. Teams of interest likely have changed, given the timeline of the season and Couture's recent injury setback.
Couture has said his injury got so bad he thought he might never play in the NHL again. That alone could scare teams away from acquiring the center. Couture and the Sharks will focus on getting healthy before anything else is thought about.
