The San Jose Sharks will be without their No. 1 center for an extended period of time.

The Sharks announced that 2024 No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini has been placed on injured reserve.
"[Celebrini] obviously placed on IR. [He's] week-to-week. That's really all I got," Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said. "I can't put a timeline on it, to be honest with you. I think week-to-week is right around where we're thinking. We'll just see how it progresses through his rehab here the next couple [of] days."
Celebrini did not participate in practice yesterday, and Warsofsky said the forward was dealing with a lower-body injury and is still being evaluated. He did deal with a lower-body injury during training camp, but the team realized it was a bigger issue following his first NHL game.
"Everyone goes through bumps and bruises throughout training camp. I'd say we kind of realized something was more in-depth after that [first] game," Warsofsky said.
In a corresponding move, the Sharks recalled defenseman Jack Thompson.
Celebrini must be on IR for a minimum of seven days before a potential return.
