San Jose Sharks defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin will miss the remainder of the Rookie Faceoff tournament.
Head coach of the rookie faceoff, John McCarthy, confirmed that the young defenseman did not travel.
"General soreness, so they decided he's not playing," McCarthy said after the team's first game. "He'll be ready for camp."
THN first learned of the defenseman's injury through a source, but it doesn't sound like the severity is something the team is concerned about.
Luca Cagnoni had been skating with Mukhamadullin in preparation for the tournament but was paired with Braden Hache. McCarthy expects the rest of his defense core to step up in Mukhamadullin's absence.
"He handled himself well. He's [played his off-side] before. That's why we had him over there," McCarthy said about Cagnoni. "I think it's good for him because, if you look at yourself as a Swiss army knife, it's another kind of area that you can play."
