Brian Bradshaw Sevald-USA TODAY Sports - BREAKING: Sharks Waive Jacob MacDonald

The San Jose Sharks have placed defenseman turned-forward Jacob MacDonald on waivers.

MacDonald has played 22 games this season and has six goals and one assist. He has had an injury-riddled season but was ready to come out of the All-Star break and have a good remainder of the season.

The Sharks have been waiting for the return of Givani Smith and need to clear a roster spot for his return. While Smith is still listed on IR, he has participated in every practice since the team returned from break. He also traveled to Calgary and Winnipeg with the team but didn't play.

The Sharks don't play until Saturday, which calls into question whether another move is taking place behind the scenes.
