The San Jose Sharks had a hard practice after their ninth consecutive loss, and head coach David Quinn wasn't happy with the start of today's skate.
"Not angry. [I was] coaching enthusiastically," Quinn said about what he was yelling about.
San Jose did their opening drill involving passing and shooting on the goalies to get the legs going, but Quinn didn't like how his team was moving.
"Just a little more pace," Quinn explained. "We're gonna have to skate tomorrow night, so let's skate here."
There was a clear sign of disappointment and frustration after last night's Sharks 5-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
"We just completely at the wrong time, turn it over, fall asleep on a penalty kill. It's clear as day what our responsibilities are, and we fell asleep," Quinn said postgame. "It's not quite 60 minutes yet for us. It's certainly a lot better, but I'm tired of being just better. You want to win hockey games, and we are not."
As for what practice entailed today, Quinn said after he asked for more pace, he got a good response.
"It was good practice. [There was] good pace, tenacity, [and] purpose," Quinn said. "It got better as it went on. We did a couple of new drills."
Kyle Burroughs and Henry Thrun did not practice today, but Quinn doesn't expect either to miss tomorrow's game against the Winnipeg Jets. Mackenzie Blackwood is expected to start for the first time since he didn't dress for two games with an illness.
If the San Jose Sharks lose tomorrow night, it will be the second time San Jose has lost ten straight games this season.
