The San Jose Sharks have cut six more players from its training camp roster, including 2022 first-round pick Filip Bystedt.

First reported by Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News, the Sharks sent down Bystedt, Tristen Robins, Brandon Coe, Georgi Romanov, Mitchell Russell, and Jake Furlong to the San Jose Barracuda. Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now later confirmed the initial report.

Bystedt was a long shot to make the opening night roster but will start in the AHL. The 2022 first-rounder make his North American pro debut late last season with the Barracuda. He played eight games and scored four goals and three assists.

2022 fifth-round pick Jake Furlong will join Bystedt with the Barracuda. Furlong had received high praise from Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky.

"[I was] really impressed by Jake. I thought he was really good, more comfortable as the game went on," Warsofsky said after the Sharks preseason win against the Anaheim Ducks. "I thought he managed the game well. He managed pucks well. He didn't put himself in tough spots on the ice. You know, he looked like an older player, to be honest with you."

Furlong played last season with the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL and will make his pro debut with the 'Cuda.

Warsofsky said he expects star goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov to be back on the ice soon. Although that might've affected the timing of Romanov's demotion, there wasn't an expectation that he would be in the NHL despite the solid training camp. Warsofsky did mention that when Askarov returns to the ice, it won't be with the practice group right away.
