Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports - Former Sharks Forward Could Barely Miss Out On Having Name On Stanley Cup

Former San Jose Sharks forward Jonah Gadjovich could barely miss out on getting his name on the Stanley Cup should the Florida Panthers close out the series.

In order for an NHL player to get their name on the Stanley Cup, they must either play in at least 41 regular-season games or play in at least one Stanley Cup Final game. Unfortunately for Gadjovich, he played 39 regular-season games and hasn't appeared in any of the four rounds of the Panthers' playoff run.

Unless Gadjovich plays in tonight's game four against the Edmonton Oilers, his name will not be on the cup.

In 1994, the NHL began allowing the winning team to petition the Commissioner for permission to put players' names on the Stanley Cup if extenuating circumstances prevented them from being available to play. Given that Gadjovich hasn't appeared in a single postseason game, this may not happen.

Gadjovich did go on paternity leave as he and his wife had twins in the middle of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but he has since returned to the team.

If the Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers tonight, he will still get a ring and be considered a Stanley Cup Champion, but his name will not be on the Stanley Cup.
