San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture has played six games this season due to injury. Today, he spoke to the media for the first time since re-aggravating the issue.
"Tough not playing, but I'm in here and working out. Feeling a little bit better," Couture said.
Couture has not been on the ice since the team returned from the All-Star break, and there is no timetable for him to return.
"I thought I was past it. As I started to play a little bit more, it got more sore and more sore and more sore. Even on days where I didn't skate and off days, it was getting worse," Couture said. I woke up, and I couldn't get out of bed, couldn't move for a bit. I knew what it was obviously this time, but it wasn't much easier."
The captain also shut down any rumors that he might want to completely shut down his season and focus on rehab to prepare for next season.
He continued to say that he wanted to be with the San Jose Sharks for his entire career. His name has floated in trade rumors, but he doesn't feel he will get moved at the trade deadline due to his injury status.
"I can't answer that. I don't want to. I'm injured. I wake up thinking about trying to play hockey again," Couture said. "If I can get back to playing hockey again, that's something that you can ask me, but I want to be on the Sharks. I love this this place. I love this organization. It means a lot to me. I couldn't see myself playing for another team. Right now, I'm just trying to get back in and play hockey."
He continued to say that he has only had a few conversations with Sharks GM Mike Grier, and the topic of being traded has not been discussed. The focus for Couture and the team is to get him healthy.
The Sharks have 26 games remaining in their season, and based on what happened earlier this season, Couture would need to make improvements reasonably quickly for a chance to return this season.
