Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals and added two assists as the Colorado Avalanche beat the San Jose Sharks 6-2.

Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals and added two assists as the Colorado Avalanche beat the San Jose Sharks 6-2 Sunday night.

MacKinnon's dynamic skating ability was on display all night long as he and the rest of his teammates showed the Sharks what a Stanley Cup contender looks like. 

Mikko Rantanen, Valeri Nichushkin, Miles Wood, and Ryan Johansen all scored for the Avalanche. Alexander Georgiev made 27 saves.

Tomas Hertl hit double digits in goals with his 10th and 11th goals of the season. Mikael Granlund earned the primary assist on the powerplay goal. Mackenzie Blackwood started and made 23 saves for San Jose. 

Anthony Duclair was a healthy scratch for tonight's game.

2:47 into the first, Jacob MacDonald was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for boarding. 

Valeri Nichushkin gets the Avs on the board with a goal on the powerplay. San Jose almost got through the entire five-minute penalty kill. Jonathan Drouin made a terrific pass to find Nichushkin's stick.

Mikko Rantanen makes it 2-0 with a sweet deflection in front. Nathan MacKinnon now has two assists on the night. 

Miles Wood joins the fun for the Avalanche. His goal makes it 3-0 late in the first period. 

MacKinnon gets himself a goal, his 13th of the season. 4-0 Avs.

Tomas Hertl gets the Sharks on board with a deflection in the slot. Mikael Granlund gets another assist with his shot from the point. 

The Sharks continue to start creating more plays, but ultimately, the Avalanche are not allowing high-quality chances. 

Ryan Johansen makes it a 5-1 game with his 10th goal of the season.

Hertl keeps the Sharks small hopes alive with his second goal of the game.
