San Jose Sharks' Macklin Celebrini and Sidney Crosby shared another funny moment at the 2025 IIHF World Championships.

Celebrini revealed that the first time he met Crosby, he called him by his formal name—Mr. Crosby. That didn’t last long, as Sidney quickly told him to just call him “Sid.”

It has to be a surreal experience for Celebrini, who’s been open about how much he looked up to Crosby growing up. Now, not only is he representing Team Canada alongside his childhood idol, but he’s also playing on the same line with him.

Their chemistry has been noticeable. This past weekend, Celebrini set up Crosby with an unbelievable no-look pass that quickly made the rounds on social media.

They even did a postgame interview together, talking about the things they’ve learned from one another. Which also caught the attention of people on social media, about just how well these two have been getting along.

Celebrini was asked what his initial reaction was when he heard Crosby would be joining Team Canada. "I mean, I was just super excited. I got to know him a little bit throughout the years, and to get to play on a line with him, it's pretty special."

He was then asked about the best piece of advice he’s learned from Crosby. Celebrini laughed and said, "Just the fact that he changes his shirt between every period," before giving a more serious answer: "It’s been great just learning from him, asking questions, and in different situations, just relaying things off him."

Crosby was then asked if, despite the nearly 20-year age gap, there’s anything he’s learned from Macklin. He had this to say: "Just the way he holds on to the puck, just poise. He gave me a nice tap-in (referring to the no-look pass). I’m hoping I can have the same poise and find him for one. It’s been a lot of fun to play with him. There’s a lot of chatter, like you said—we like to talk about plays. We want to get better and better. But yeah, he definitely makes me work in practice and in games, so I gotta keep up with this guy."

Most people expected the Crosby–Celebrini pairing to be one of the standout stories of the tournament. But few could have predicted they’d click this well, this fast and have a mentee, mentor relationship.

With the medal round approaching, Canada will be counting on both of them to keep stepping up and help bring gold back home.
