The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Egor Afanasyev to a one-year contract worth $800K. Afanasyev is returning to North America after spending last season in the KHL with CSKA Moscow.
Sharks GM Mike Grier spoke about the addition in a team release:“Egor brings a combination of size and skill to our forward group,” Grier said. “We are excited to bring him into our organization as he continues his growth in the North American game.”
Afanasyev previously spent three years in the Nashville Predators organization, splitting time between the NHL and AHL before heading overseas. In 19 NHL games, he recorded just one goal and finished with a minus-8 rating. However, he found much more success at the AHL level, where he scored 27 goals and added 27 assists for 54 points.
This past season with CSKA Moscow, the 23-year-old played in 53 games and posted seven goals and 14 assists.
The Sharks acquired his rights from Nashville in a trade that sent Ozzy Wiesblatt to the Predators back in June.
