Martin Jones will start for the Toronto Maple Leafs against his former team, the San Jose Sharks.
Jones has taken over as the Leafs' No. 1 netminder with Joseph Woll injured and Ilya Samsonov in the AHL. The 33-year-old has played ten games with Toronto this season and has six wins with his 2.20 GAA and .930 save %.
Jones has started the last five games for Toronto, including back-to-back nights against the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks. Jones recorded 58 saves across the two games.
Jones has faced the Sharks six times in his career, three times after his time with San Jose ended in 2021. He's only played against the Sharks in San Jose since he left the organization. That game was with the Seattle Kraken on Feb. 20 last season.
Dennis Hildeby will be the backup goalie for Toronto. He has yet to play an NHL game in his career. Given Sheldon Keefe's use of Jones, the Maple Leafs will lean heavily on Martin Jones.
Noah Gregor will play his first game against the team that gave him his NHL debut.
The Sharks and Maple Leafs face off at 4 p.m. PST tomorrow. The Sharks sent down Jack Studnicka, opening up the potential for Logan Couture to make his season debut.
