David Perron scored the game-winning goal as the Detroit Red Wings beat the San Jose Sharks 5-3 on Tuesday night.

"We just completely at the wrong time, turn it over, fall asleep on a penalty kill. It's clear as day what our responsibilities are, and we fell asleep," Sharks head coach David Quinn said postgame. "It's not quite 60 minutes yet for us. It's certainly a lot better, but I'm tired of being just better. You want to win hockey games, and we are not."

In a back-and-forth affair, the Sharks finally played an even game. They got contributions from multiple players. Fabian Zetterlund, Justin Bailey, and Alexander Barabanov scored. Kaapo Kahkonen had another good game, making 26 saves.

Detroit's offense was spread out as well. The Red Wings got goals from Daniel Sprong, J.T. Compher, and two from Perron. Perron had the game-tying and game-winning goals. Alex Lyon started and made 24 saves.

The Sharks penalty kill continues to fail them. San Jose gave up two powerplay goals, including a game-tying goal right after they took a 3-2 lead in the third period. Detroit went 2/4 on the man advantage.

"I just gotta hold the seem [on the first powerplay goal]," Zetterlund said. "That's on me. Can't happen."

Late in the third, William Eklund was penalized for high-sticking. The referees took a look and still deemed it a penalty despite the contact being on a follow-through.

"They called it. They talked about it. They apparently looked at it. That's the call they made," Quinn said.

San Jose has now lost nine games in a row. Their last win was against the Winnipeg Jets on Dec. 12. The Jets return to San Jose on Thursday for a rematch.

"We look a lot different now," Quinn said, comparing the season-opening losing streak to this one. "A lot of those games, we were just hanging on. That's not the case now."

Daniel Sprong wires one into the top of the net to give the Red Wings the lead 6:11 into the first period. He's up to ten goals this season. San Jose's penalty kill continues to fail them.

Fabian Zetterlund scores his 11th goal of the season after a fluky bounce got through Lyon. The Sharks tied the game at one with 3:10 to go in the first.

J.T. Compher scores his 9th goal of the season after beating Kahkonen five-hole. That's one the San Jose goalie will want back.

Justin Bailey deflected in his second goal of the season. Mario Ferraro made a great move at the point to create a shooting lane and allow Bailey to get to the front of the net.

Alexander Barabanov completes a clean breakout with a sweet goal. He drove the net wide, spun, and scored. That's his second goal of the season and his 100th career point.

David Perron scores his 8th goal of the season to tie the game quickly.

Perron scores his second of the game, beating Kahkonen through the legs. Detroit lead 4-3 with 1:30 to go.

Michael Rasmussen added an empty net goal to seal it.
