Report: Devils Big Defender Rejected Trade To Sharks cover image

According to Elliotte Friedman, Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton locked a trade to the Sharks last season.

During the latest episode of Sportsnet's Saturday Headlines, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton blocked a trade to the San Jose Sharks this past off-season.

"One thing we are aware of is that, in the summer, San Jose did try to trade for him, and Hamilton blocked that move. Now, the way it's going now for the Sharks, perhaps he changes his mind. They are one of the best teams in the NHL to watch."

Hearing that the Sharks had interest in Hamilton this past off-season is not necessarily surprising. It was no secret that the Sharks were looking to revamp their blueline, and they did just that, even without acquiring Hamilton. This is because the Sharks brought in a number of new blueliners during the off-season, including John Klingberg, Dmitry Orlov, and Nick Leddy.

With how things have gone for the Sharks this season, it is likely that they are not too upset about Hamilton blocking a trade to San Jose.

Hamilton is in the middle of a tough season with the Devils, as he has recorded five goals, five assists, and a minus-7 rating in 40 games. These numbers are very low for Hamilton's standards, but it is fair to wonder if a change of scenery could help him bounce back.
